Peter Grose has done a superb job in providing a detailed and interesting analysis of the attack on Sydney Harbour on the last day of May 1942.
His fluent style of writing enables the reader to quickly grasp names and dates, and all the main characters in this amazing tale are 'brought to life' again to tell us of their part on the story.
For me, some myths were exposed for what they were, and the detailed maps of Sydney Harbour helped me to truly put this tale into perspective. I was quite surprised at how fortunate Sydney was over the period of the attack due to the true lack of preparation that had been made.
Grose's treatment of the terrible tragedy that surrounded the sinking of the Kuttabul is extremely powerful. The work done by the Navy Divers is also given plenty of praise.
Overall, a great yarn involving an attack on one of the greatest harbours in the world.
