Basically a description of the WREP project that compared the role of mainstream churches in welfare provision in eight European countries. Quite thin from a sociological perspective and sometimes plagued by triumphalist defenses of (state) churches as irreplaceable pillars of society—a claim even the reserach itself rarely supports. Looking forward to reading the (apparently) more theoretical pt. 2. Watch out for a combined review in Acta Sociologica sometime in 2012.
