Due to the title, which to me still sounds like Modernism for Dummies, I thought that this book was just going to give a superficial overview of the different modernist movements. It's actually very helpful for situating early-through-high modernist authors in their respective places and directing the reader to additional readings and resources for further research. I also really like that Childs covers more obscure authors, such as Djuna Barnes, and makes a case for their place in the canon. In my opinion, this book is a must-have for anyone preparing for Ph.D. comprehensive exams in modernism.
