Though it was the word "streetcars" in the title that prompted me to read this book, there is only a bit* about them in this book highlighting the history, residents, personalities and architecture of this historic area of Phoenix, roughly bounded by McDowell on the north, Fillmore on the south, Central Avenue on the east and Seventh Avenue on the west.

Three walking tours with details on the sites are included, all covering roughly the same area. They focus on 1) Town becomes a city; 2) People who shaped the city; and 3) Architecture. These I can do! and maybe even drag along slightly less interested relatives and friends.

*What there is about streetcars is taken primarily from a book I previously read, Ride a mile and smile the while : a history of the Phoenix Street Railway, 1887-1948.
