This book is told through the eyes of William, a young boy who arose one night to find that he was in the middle of one of London's most tragic historic events, which the book is named after. The storyfollowsWilliam, his family and other people as they battle to save their homes, livelihoods and most importantly, themselves from the fire. The book explains the damage of the fire in simple accessible language and is full of illustrations which makes it ideal for younger readers who are learning about The Great Fire of London. It also allows young children to empathise with the main character's thoughts and feelings as William is a young boy and is frightened about what will happen to him and his family.
When I started my placement my year 2 class were at the end of a term where they had learned about the great fire of London. I think this book would be a great book to read aloud to a class during 'story time' if they were learning about the great fire of London. I would also recommend it as an independent read for children in years 2-4 depending on their ability.
