The first 47 pages concern healthy eating habits that have a lot of full-color examples, charts, and dietary information. The author does a fine job explaining high (HDL), low (LDL) and very low (VLDL), and how the body uses or stores fats.He explains the type of blood test that should be done (Lipid); how those results are measured in both the UK and U.S.He talks about fat, body shape, clothing size and who is more at risk for health problems based on that criteria. There is a neat chart on phytochemicals and A Quick Guide to Fats in the Diet chart, too.

The author emphasizes a Mediterranean diet, allowing small amounts of alcohol, small amounts of meat as part of a normal healthy person's diet—lots of veggies, fruits, nuts and whole grains.Suggests if you have to eat meat, make it the smaller portion on the plate and the legumes, whole-grain bread, veggies and fruit the main portions.

He mentions a few supplements, but is not a big fan of herbs and supplement usage. The author suggests drinking milk for calcium in several places and I'm surprised he didn't address the health concerns of most dairy cows in the U.S. being injected with synthetic hormones that are NOT good for us.Soy milk is better for us.Also, the FDA has allowed our meat animals to be injected with synthetic hormones (estrogen) to increase weight faster. This makes those two items unhealthy, no matter how they are trimmed or cooked. :-(

Some of the recipes that use meat also offer a non-meat options, but not all.
